It turns out it's like SOA; there are levels to this tower, and they are currently on the first floor and all that—2 seasons' worth of episodes just to reach here, and again, looked down upon by people, and now he has to prove himself after saving the city. If Will were not there, the city / the magic vendors all would have died, and they still act high like they are the shit. The author just doesn't want them to unite and end the story; we get it.
